The initial inspiration came from shadows reflected on grass. After a few weeks she came up with a technique that didn't render the chosen object on the canvas as an image that was flat. Rather the subject is transformed into a re-creation of itself, where the surface is the vehicle for its individual interpretation of the subject, particularly when the subject is alive or perishable, such as people or fruits. Alexa Meade's style of painting, that is a bit ephemeral in the sense that it is amorphous, transparent. The only piece of Alexa's art that survives is the photo. Photography and painting are tightly connected to form an unflattering two-dimensional space that is a trompe l'oeil. In certain places, the three-dimensional space can be observed, such as around the eye or on the hair. Meade can sometimes incorporate her model in the environment around her that allows the model to be a part of the context of their own. Thereby repealing the boundaries between painting, photography, performances and installations.
